MAXX-CUTTER, steelcord breaker cutting and splicing system
The MAXX-CUTTER is revolutionizing the process of cutting and splicing of calendared steel cord to produce breaker and chafer material for radial passenger and truck tires. The patented servo driven disc & bar type cutting action is offering total control over cutting forces, reducing blade wear and set up time.
Whether you are cutting thick and tough TBR steelcord or thin and high tensile UHPT steelcord, the continuous controlled cutting force will take care of a precise and clean cutting result. The pull through feeding and direct splicing principle combines the highest quality level with the highest speeds available in the market. The MAXX-CUTTER is fitted with auto change-over windups and let offs to minimize down time for stock roll changes.

TWINS cutting and splicing systems for breaker material
The fully automated TWINS cutting and splicing system processes calendared steel cord to produce breaker material for radial passenger and truck tires. The servo feeding system with magnetic positioning control gives smooth, accurate feed of the calendared steel cord resulting in extremely accurate cutting, at a highly consistent angle and width. Because of the quick cutting action and efficient material feed, the robust splicing system has a very short cycle time ensuring a high productivity.
The machine is designed specifically to minimize downtime and is fitted with easy, efficient changeover of both the let-off stock roll and wind-up breaker roll. Incorporating additional features, such as extra wind-up modules, slitters, and gum strip applicators, allows us to customize this cutting/splicing system to your specific requirements.

Steel body ply cutting and splicing systems
The fully automated Steel body ply cutting and splicing system processes calendared steel cord to produce steel body ply for all steel radial and truck and bus tires. The servo feeding system with magnetic positioning control gives smooth, accurate feed of the calendared steel cord resulting in extremely accurate cutting, without angle variation, at a highly consists length.
A very strong splice is achieved because splicing pressure is applied from both top and bottom of the material. Magnetic beam transfer system ensures highly accurate splicing of the steel body ply. Incorporating additional features, such as extra wind-up modules, slitters, and gum strip applicators, allows us to customize this Steel body ply system to your specific requirements.

Textile cutting and splicing systems for radial passenger tires
Textile cutting and splicing for radial passenger tires The fully automated Textile cutting and splicing system processes calendared textile ply material to produce highly uniform body ply with a consistent splice overlap for radial passenger tires. The dustless disk and bar cutter cuts angles between 85 and 95 degrees, at high quality, every time. The servo-drive belt feed gives accurate length control without any angle variation.
The high accuracy and uniformity close-to-butt splices resulting in less material waste and leading to significant cost savings. To match your tire building logistics the system is designed with quick and easy change stock let-off and material wind-up systems.

Slitting and gum strip application systems
This slitting and gum strip application system is used in combination with direct extruded breaker production systems. To increase the production capacity of your present production of direct extruded breaker material, VMI offers you a compact slitter and gum strip application system.
The high capacity slitter system, using large circular cutter knives, has the possibility to slit breakers with unequal width. The accurate electronic speed control synchronizes between your existing system and the slitting and gum strip application system. The gum strip applicator allows for applying two strips and comes including a folding unit.

Baldwin endless breaker maker systems
This line produces endless breaker material from rubber compound and steel cord wires of the required width and angle and winds this material automatically onto reels ready for post-processing in tire building machines.
The production of the breaker material is done in two stages. First one endless strip having longitudinally steel cord wires is produced by means of extrusion, after that this strip is cut under an angle and length corresponding with the dimensions of the required breaker material. The cut strip is positioned on a conveyor and spliced together to the already cut strips to form breaker material. After that the endless breaker material is wound onto a roll. With this systems endless breakers can be produced from 70 – 500 mm with an angle between 18° - 30°, the applied end count is between 13 to 24 EPI.
The complete line of the Baldwin endless breaker maker system consists of a cold-feed pin type extruder with gear pump, a creel and organizer unit, the festooner, the BALDWIN feeding and cutting unit, a wind-up system tailor made to customer’s need and a highly advanced control system.

Baldwin endless OTR breaker and body ply maker systems
The production of OTR tires requires a high level of flexibility. The total number of tires produced is limited. On the other hand within each tire many different components are used, often with different compounds, cord constructions, angles, widths. For this reason VMI developed the Baldwin endless OTR breaker and body ply maker systems, a flexible production system leading to serious costs reductions compared to the traditional production process.
The Baldwin endless OTR breaker and body ply maker system produces endless breaker material, chafer or ply material from rubber compound and steel cord wires of the required width and angle and winds this material automatically onto reels ready for post-processing in tire building machines.
