VMI EdgiQ, steel belt cutting and splicing system
Our VMI EdgiQ steel belt cutting and splicing system has revolutionized the process of cutting and splicing calendared steel belt, producing quality steel belt and chafer material for radial passenger and truck tires. VMI's patented servo driven disc & bar type cutting action provides total control over cutting forces, therefore reducing blade wear and set-up time.
Whether cutting thick, tough TBR or high tensile UHPT steel belt, the continuously controlled cutting force ensures precise and clean cutting. The pull through feeding and direct splicing principle combines high quality action with the fastest speeds available. The VMI EdgiQ is also fitted with auto change-over wind-ups and let-offs that minimize down time for stock roll changes.
The unprecedented speed and unmatched Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of the VMI EdgiQ ensures the highest daily production output currently available on the market.

Textile cutting and splicing systems for radial passenger tires
This fully automated system processes calendared textile ply material for the production of highly uniform body ply incorporating a consistent splice overlap for radial passenger tires. The dustless disk and bar cutter cuts angles between 85 and 95 degrees to a consistently high standard and the servo-drive belt feed gives precise length control without any angle variation.
Extreme accuracy and uniformity of close-to-butt splices guarantees minimal material waste and significant cost savings. The system is also designed with fast and easy stock let-off and material wind-up systems to completely co-ordinate with existing tire building logistics.

Slitting and gum strip application systems
This system is used in combination with direct extruded breaker production systems and increases the production capacity of direct extruder breaker material. VMI's slitter system includes large circular cutter knives to slit breakers to unequalled widths along with an accurate electronic speed control that synchronizes between existing systems and the slitting and gum strip application system. The gum strip applicator applies two strips and also includes a folding unit.

Baldwin endless breaker maker systems
This line produces ongoing breaker material from rubber compound and steel cord wires to any required width and angle. The material is winded automatically onto reels for post-processing in tire building machines.
Production of the breaker material is carried out in two stages. Initially one continuous strip with longitudinal steel cord wires is created through extrusion. Then the strip is cut at an angle and length required for breaker material and positioned on a conveyor and spliced together with other strips to form breaker material and wound onto a roll. This VMI system can produce from 70 up to 500mm lengths at angles between 18 to 30 degrees plus the applied end count can be between 13 and 24 EPI. The complete line of the Baldwin endless breaker production system consists of a cold feed pin type extruder with gear pump, a creel and organiser unit, the festooner, feeding and cutting unit, a wind-up system tailored to individual needs plus a highly advanced control system.

Baldwin endless OTR breaker and body ply maker systems
As the manufacture of OTR tires requires a high level of flexibility, the number of tires produced is limited. At the same time each tire needs many different components, often with varying compounds, cord constructions, angles and widths.
Therefore VMI's Baldwin endless OTR breaker and body ply production system offers an impressive flexible operation to ensure significant cost reductions compared to traditional production processes. The system produces ongoing breaker and chafer or ply material from rubber compound and steel cord wires at any width and angle which automatically winds onto reels ready for post-processing in tire building machines.
