Radial passenger tire assembly machine, model VMI248-2    

Although single stage technology is leading, we manufacture second stage machines as well. An example is the VMI248-2 second stage tire assembly machine, which is a lean version of our VMI248-SL single stage machine model, using the same proven design elements. It builds a finished green tire from the carcass, built on a separate first stage assembly machine, two breakers, cap strip and a tread.

Radial passenger tire assembly machine, model VMI242-SL

VMI brings to the market an entry-level of single stage passenger tire assembly systems. With many of the features of the top selling VMI248-SL, the VMI242-SL offers the user flat-drum single stage building technology for superior quality and uniformity by utilizing the tooling that is interchangeable with the entire range of VMI’s family of passenger tire assembly machines. A reduced level of automation requires a second operator to achieve an output approaching 1,000 tires per day. The modular system allows customers to configure the building system to their specific requirements, and also permits upgrading to the level of a VMI248-SL at a later date.

Radial passenger tire assembly machine, model VMI248-SL

The components centering, guiding and cutting system results in a very accurate application and is the basis for a good uniformity. Our patented mechanical carcass building and shaping drum has special features such as mechanical bead locks, mechanical turn-up and bead-shoulder support system. The turn up length is variable in order to reach the best possible turn-up for a given tire design, all resulting in the best possible base for assembling a tire. The mechanical drum is without any bladders resulting in a consistent building sequence and no down time due to sudden bladder defects.

Since all the combined actions are optimized and balanced, the single stage assembly machines have a very short cycle time. It is designed specifically to minimize downtime and is fitted with easy, efficient changeover of both the let-off stock rolls and tire size depending tooling. The modern control system is menu driven and automated machine settings enable fast, accurate changeover of material width, type and angle, making the VMI248-SL also suitable for small batches.

The machine is supplied with fast-change single or dual let-off systems to accommodate your tire building logistics. Choose reels, shells, or cassettes, automatic green tire removal system and automatic stock roll changes to your specific requirements, all these will customize the TBM to your specific requirements. In the industry tires designs differ, but with our customized servicers and applicators for fabric or steel chafers, flippers, gum strips (also for run flat tires) we can match your tire technology.

Radial passenger tire assembly machine, model VMI348-S

The VMI348-Ssingle stage two drums assembly machine is based on the proven design of the VMI248-SL. However, it is developed for passenger tires up to 24" and also for complex tire constructions, like run-flat. The breaker, tread and cap strip package is assembled on the B&T drum, while, simultaneously, ply, inner liner, side walls, beads and chafer components are assembled on the flat carcass drum. Only one single operator supervises the process. Our tire assembly machines have a lot of feature, but the main key features are:

Radial passenger tire assembly machine, model VMI MAXX

VMI has designed and built a completely new tire building machine that looks and operates quite different from the previous TBM's - the world famous VMI248 and 348. The new TBM is a 2-drum machine for radial car tires that works according to the single stage building process. It combines a high level of flexibility with a substantial higher output and a better green tire quality. This new TBM builds tires in various sizes from 13" up to 24" rim size and is named the VMI MAXX.

What is new about the MAXX?

The tire building process of the MAXX is fully automatic and a robot unloads the green tires from the machine. The first thing that strikes one is the new corporate VMI design, that gives the machine a completely new look, but this design allowed at the same time for the integration of all the safeties in the base construction of the machine.

Then, contrary to the traditional VMI TBM's, both building drums are moving on a transfer track, while the transfer device is in a fixed position. Also the design of the belt and tread servicers are completely new, providing us superior component application. To improve up-time and flexibillity, the servicers have been equipped with dual let-offs for quick material change. Laser measuring devices and digital cameras automatically control the quality of the green tires.

Auxiliary-Equipment

VMI is leading supplier of single stage tire assembly systems and developed a large range of pre-assembly systems, component servicers and tooling for their equipment. This ancillary equipment is available and can even be retrofitted to your existing tire building systems. A random pick of the possibilities are described hereafter.

Pre-assembly systems for side wall and inner liner
The flexibility of our single stage tire assembly systems is thanks to the inline pre-assembly unit, which assembles the inner liner, sidewall and optional chafer strips during the building process. However, the inner liner, side walls and chafer strips can be assembled offline as well. VMI manufactures highly sophisticated pre-assemble systems, which can be used for your existing building process as well.

Over the years VMI developed for their radial passenger and all steel truck tire assembly systems, highly automated servicers for components like breakers, tread, textile or steel chafer strips, inner liner, body ply and side walls.
