Pin type extrusion for the tire industry
VMI-AZ Pin-Barrel extruders are primarily used with tire compounds that contain high natural rubber providing proven efficiency and flexibility.
Pin Barrel extruders are specifically designed to generate additional shear flow in the extruder screw channel to give a homogeneous temperature build-up of both the rubber and plasticization. The pins ensure a very homogeneous temperature distribution in the extruded compound which can be easily optimized by increasing or decreasing the number of pins per plane.
The following applications are available using the VMI-AZ Pin-Barrel extruders:
- Bead wire coating
- Gum strip extrusion
- Cap strip extrusion
- Apex extrusion

Apex Extrusion
The VMI-AZ Apex 70 extruder is optimized for extrusion of apex profiles. This system is designed for the automatic VMI Bead Apex line.
The system is equipped with a rapid die change extrusion head which reduces the time for a die package exchange to around 15 seconds! The die package includes a pre-die.
Optionally the extruder head can be supplied with an integrated strainer plate.
The main features of the system are:
- Unique screw diameter of 70 mm precisely matches the output for the VMI Bead Apex Line
- Die exchange within 15 seconds
- Quick hopper
- Feed control
- Available as PIN-Type or Transfermix extruder
Optionally the VMI-AZ Apex 70 extrusion system can be supplied with a feeding unit for tension less rubber strip feeding, or with a zigzag cutter feeding unit. As well a metal detector can be installed on the feeding unit.
