Airspring building

Over the years VMI has developed a wide range of airspring building machine and tooling. VMI offers an extensive range of airspring building machines, suitable for the production of several types of airsprings and with a flexible level of automation. Single stage, or one process systems, are available for the assembly of cylindrical types in one step. The two stage systems can be used for building conical airsprings, or types with different bead sizes.

The mechanical turn-up technology and accurate component preparation is based on the same technology used in VMI’s state of the art and proven tire assembly systems. For the several ways of manufacturing air spring casings VMI can supply a wide range of machinery, i.e.:

Single stage airspring building machines

This machine is suitable to build the automatically pre-cut carcass layers, set both beads, with equal diameter, perform the mechanical turn-up, followed by the stitching procedure. For conical airsprings, this machine can be used as a first stage machine.

First stage airspring building machines

This machine is suitable to build cylindrical and conical sleeves from the automatically pre-cut carcass layers. For some constructions the smallest bead can be set and the mechanical turn-up can be done, followed by the stitching procedure. In this case the bead with a bigger diameter should be placed on a separate 2nd stage machine.

Second stage airspring building machines

This machine receives the sleeves from the first stage building machine. Depending on the sleeve construction, one or two beads can be set, followed by the mechanical turn-up and stitching procedure. Left and right bead may differ from diameter.
