VMI wins award for best product presented at Moscow exhibition Tires & Rubber

For her new VMI MAXX Steel Cord Cutter, VMI Holland BV was among the three award winners for best product presented at the International Specialized Exhibition “Rubber & Tires 2010” in Moscow (Russia).

It was selected by a three persons expert council:

Latest knife-material technology used in VMI Cutting systems

Most existing cutting systems for steel cord reinforced calendared rubber materials are of the guillotine- or scissor type, derived from the steel plate cutters. Such cutters need heavy constructions, mainly to handle lots of undefined high forces, whilst in fact only a limited and exactly calculable force is needed for the actual cut of the steel cords and the rubber in the calendared material. On such heavy cutters, cutting failures and excessive wear can only be avoided at the cost of intensive maintenance and time consuming adjustment procedures.
 

In the new patented VMI MAXX Cutter the latest knife-material technology and the latest servo control technologies in combination with cameras, are used. The cutting force, exactly at the cutting spot, is servo controlled, resulting both in low wear and a high cut quality. The cutting is by a disk blade moving along a bar blade. The speed is high and gives an unsurpassed overall productivity. Recent tests showed that the new thin high tensile and hybrid breaker cords can be handled by this cutter, with the same high speed and high accuracy. So the VMI MAXX cutter is an essential key to the future light weight tire designs.
