Laboratory tester accelerates developing of tread compounds

VMI now offers a comprehensive Laboratory Abrasion-and-Traction-Tester for the development and quality control of tread compounds, the LAT-100. The LAT-100 laboratory tester is an effective tool that provides fast and accurate information on abrasion and traction properties of a compound for treads and the software even forecasts the mileage performance of the compound.

Avoiding road tests

Optimization of tread compound and assessment of newly developed tread compound as well as regular quality control can be performed on laboratory equipment. This will enable you to avoid time consuming and costly road tests. Data derived from tests are processed in a statistical LAT Explorer software program which includes a road simulation module with more than 3000 different road/drive conditions. Results thus obtained from a tread compound have a high correlation with the results from actual road tests.

Fast test results

Within one day, complete results concerning the abrasion, traction properties and mileage performance of a compound can be obtained from a small rubber sample. Tests can be made using several test surfaces, either under dry or wet road conditions and within a wide range of temperatures.

Presently more than twenty LAT-100 machines are in use at tire plants, at producers of poly-mers, fillers and rubber chemicals, as well as at research institutes.
